@sM3e Cool, youll have no trouble with Snowden, i tested it on Wednesday, its ok. I still need more training before our challenge though@captainteacakes just under 8 for Ben and 6 for Scafell. Hi there folks! I need your help please?
I am raising money for a fantastic charity called School in a Bag by Climbing the 3 Highest Mountains in the UK over 3 Days! My challenge starts on the 17th May (just 18 days from now) and I have a personal target of £750 and am well over half way there but I really need every penny.
Tomorrow I am hosting a cake sale at my work – Stanchester Academy – to raise funds aided by some amazing year 11 students and staff.

2 days ago I dropped my iPhone 4 ~ it landed on concrete, face down and as I looked down to where it lay the back was smashed to pieces 
Expecting the worst I picked up the broken phone and slowly turned it over to see how much damage had been done, and how much it was going to hurt my wallet! To my surprise the front was fine!! Lucky me.
The back was ruined though, so I went on eBay to see what I could find. There ate so many different backs and they are incredibly easy to swap. Look what £6 got me, I’m so very happy with it……

iOS 5.1 is available as an “Over the Air” update in the Settings App on your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad.
iTunes 6 Brings Genius Playlists to iTunes Match and Movies – (all-be-it only Movies you have purchased from Apple but hey thats still cool!)
iOS 5.1 seems more snappy, permanently has the Camera icon next to the slide to unlock bar, has improved battery life and now offers you the opportunity to delete photos from your iCloud Photo Stream – Huzzah!! — Lastly 5.1 brings much bigger changes to the Apple TV 2 (ATV2) more on this later though
Apple never gave the new iPad a new name like iPad3, iPadHD or iPad2S, they just referred to it as the new iPad. Most importantly though they did announce a new iPad!

iPhoto for iOS has been released and looks pretty swanky! Support for up to 19MP Photos, full editing suite and some clever photo management options. It says it is a universal app available for both iPhone and iPad, would appear after investigation iPhone 4+ only and iPad 2+, iOS 5.1 is a necessity.

Microsoft have today taken the preview of Windows 8 to the next level, so no longer do you have to be a Microsoft Developer to play. Anyone can download the consumer version right here, burn it to a DVD and install it. Machine specs are not an issue as if it currently runs Windows 7 you’ll be able to run Windows 8.

The big changes here are Microsoft embracing other Tech. Yes on your current machines you can peel the shiny Metro Exterior away (looks just like Windows Phone 7 and the Xbox 360 Dashboard), underneath you will find good old fashioned windows. This is ideal for us power users. I think Windows 8 is not aimed at power users though. The Metro GUI has its own App Store, Internet Explorer 10 and is incredibly user friendly. Best of all Metro Windows 8 will run on ARM Powered Tablets (not the full windows in the background though) and best of all apps written for Metro on a Desktop or Full PC / Laptop will work on an ARM Machine too like a phone or tablet. This is the biggest step Microsoft have ever taken and it will be interesting to see how it pans out for them. If you download it and have a play why not share your experiences here.
This is something I have been following for a while and was actually bought to my attention by my wife. This is a fully functioning PC for just £22! Yup thats right £22!
Sound too good to be true?… Don’t go thinking this is a device to replace current PC’s, nor will it run Microsoft Windows, that is not what Raspberry Pi was ever intended for. This device will be for hobbyists, enthusiasts and students and will be a supplementary device to work alongside current computer technology. It ships with a Debian (linux) distro that boots from a standard SD Card and comes with some pre-installed software for people to use the device for programming. Raspberry Pi was designed for people to be able to write their own software and programs, learn to write programs and share this work, knowledge and achievements amongst the new society of users it will create. There are already many people planning on using this device in many different ways. It would work fantastically as a Media Centre PC running XBMC, some people already have it working as an AirPlay Device (much cheaper than an Apple TV) and Schools are already ordering them in their thousands to give future students the possibility to start a computing revolution. I have seen a tech demo of the device running Quake 3 at full 1080p Resolution at a fairly impressive frame-rate, besides if Onlive bring out a client for this it would be fantastic!
What this is, is a circuit board with a SOC (System on a chip) – like you find inside the latest Mobile Phones and Tablets. The SOC is a processor, graphics (GPU) and RAM all in one chip taking up less space and less resources. Along with this there are 2 USB Port’s, HDMI and good old fashioned Yellow Phono Out (RCA – will work with a scart socket on a TV), a 3.5mm Audio Jack, an Ethernet Port and an SD Card Reader. There is also a Micro USB Socket for the device to get its power from a 5V Charger similar to a Mobile Phone Charge. Literally plug this thing in, add a mouse and keyboard, HDMI or RCA to a Telly and off you go!
The device will come in 2 versions, a Version A & a Version B. Currently Version B is available as from today from either Premier Farnell or RS Components and only costs £16 for version A and £22 for version B.
Because of the huge success and interest in this device production of the cheaper, lower spec Version A of the device has been ramped up to meet the demands of the educational market later in the year. The Version A Device will only have 1 USB Socket and no Ethernet, it is also believed that the Version A device will have a full housing that they hope to be see-through so students can see how impressive this bit of tech is.

Development of the device is undertaken by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a charitable organization registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The board of trustees was assembled by 2008 and the Raspberry Pi Foundation was founded as a registered charity in May 2009 in Caldecote, South Cambridgeshire, UK. The Foundation is supported by the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory and Broadcom. Its aim is to “promote the study of computer science and related topics, especially at school level, and to put the fun back into learning computing.”
Trustees of the Foundation are David Braben, Jack Lang, Pete Lomas, Rob Mullins, Alan Mycroft and Eben Upton.
I personally cant wait to get my hands on a few of these. I hope to be using them as Media Centre PC’s to extend my Media Network to all the TV’s in the house and I want to try and rig one up as a PVR with a USB TV Tuner. I will also want to try and get Airplay working on one to setup a screen on the wall in our kitchen for AirPlay Mirroring in the upcoming Mountain Lion – meaning I can have the full power of my Mac but slimmed down and wall mounted at very little cost. I will of course have one to play and tinker with and see exactly what I can get out of it and share with the community. Who knows, maybe we will see a whole Raspberry Pi Culture develop and an all new Raspberry App Store?… Lets see where this ends up in a years time!

Piers Simon Appeal is a disaster relief charity that delivers aid worldwide.
SCHOOLinaBAG is a charity I am now working very closely with and is a simple solution created to help poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children throughout the world. Each SchoolBag is filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.
If you just gave me £1 yeah you’d be shy a chocolate bar but look on the bright side, its less on the hips and your £1 would contribute to my target which if I reach would buy 10 School Bags!
Please support this amazing cause, even if its just to get me in a pair of silly, tight cycling shorts! Im sure there will be pictures!!
Apple has just officially announced their media event is to be held on the 4th October at 10.00am PST (Pacific Time)
That’s 6pm for us Brits over the pond.
The event will be held in a much more intimate location on their campus instead of their regular haunt.
This confirms all the rumours and the graphic they are using to advertise it spins some new rumours of its own!
The graphics confirm the date, time and location but there is a strange number 1 on the phone icon. You’d usually see this if you have a missed call. Then theres the strap line “Let’s talk iPhone”
This implies the release of just one iPhone instead of the high end and entry level people are expecting? I for one only ever thought they’d release the one and use the current iPhone to replace the entry level 3GS.
The interesting part for me is the word “Talk” my thoughts on this are it is about the iPhone talking to its user and the user talking to its iPhone. Full voice control so we can talk operations and text messages and it types for us. Likewise it will read them out-loud too!
Not long until the 4th, a week today in-fact. All will be answered then
